Many fans continue to hope for a second season, but the truth is the story ended with its creator. Daisuke Satō passed away in 2017 at just 52, due to heart disease.
In time, the series’ editor, Kawanakajima, and illustrator, Shōji Satō, explained why the manga will never be completed. Their decision ultimately comes from a deep respect for the author’s singular voice.
The editor shared:
“Realistically speaking, there is nobody in the world who could inherit Daisuke Satō’s vision… he was the one and only. I’d like overseas fans to understand that nobody else could write it easily.”
The illustrator echoed this sentiment, admitting it “pains his heart” to leave the work unfinished, but continuing without Daisuke Satō would feel wrong. For them, this story began and ended with him. 🕊️
