Presuming cinema, music and literature as art forms and claiming gaming is an artistic medium because it contains them, even if true, would put games as a derivative art form, which can only be regarded as such as long as it is composed by them. To which I highly disagree.

This “argument” does such a disservice to defending video games as art.
Not only is it fallacious, but it also implies that games themselves are not art, hence their presumed reliance on the qualities of other media that compose them.

I’m confused why this has ever been a debate. Is music art? Yes Is storytelling art? Yes Is animation art? Yes Is acting art? Yes Is writing art? Yes Is cinematography art? Yes Okay, video games have all of those + things like level design/game design. Idk how it was ever a question.
