We’ve been hard at work to deliver new standardized trash and recycling carts to keep our neighborhoods clean for all Providence neighbors. Last week we kicked off the pickup process of the old carts and distribution of the new carts. Not only are these carts bigger but they are also better labeled than the old carts to help our neighbors determine how to dispose of various items. ♻️ Wondering when you’ll receive your new carts? Check the 🔗 in our bio to submit your address with an update on when you can expect your new carts.

Today, we gathered for our annual St. Joseph’s Day celebration, honoring the generations of Italian Americans who helped shape the city we love. We were proud to welcome former Providence Mayor and U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline as this year's keynote speaker, and are truly grateful for his decades of service to Providence and Rhode Island.

We’re addressing the root causes of the housing shortage but know that too many of our neighbors are struggling today and need support now. This program will provide a critical lifeline so that an unexpected crisis does not turn into permanent displacement.

Today I'm proud to announce that we've added a brand new rescue with the most up-to-date technology and are hiring 16 new firefighters to join the force in the upcoming months. These efforts are in thanks to the Providence City Council and with support from Senator Whitehouse, Senator Reed, Congressman Amo and Congressman Magaziner. These investments in the City not only strengthen our commitment to the safety and wellbeing of our community but will also equip firefighters with technology that protect our residents. The City of Providence stands by our brave and dedicated Fire Department and these initiatives only make our community safer and stronger.

Summer should be a time for Providence kids to learn, grow and have fun. That’s why we’re bringing back EAT PLAY LEARN PVD, our citywide initiative that helps families access free meals, affordable camps and opportunities for youth to stay active and engaged all summer long. This year’s program will provide free meals for youth across our parks, recreation centers and libraries, $5 weekly summer camps and hands-on learning and job opportunities for young people across Providence. It will take two to three weeks to complete deliveries in these areas, then we’ll move onto the next set of delivery routes. RI Recycled Metal's actions tonight is just the latest chapter in my over two year effort to shut down this bad actor. Our South Providence neighbors deserve better. This facility's continued ability to operate is unacceptable and I remain committed to holding them accountable and giving our neighbors the answers they deserve.

ICYMI: Our new trash and recycling cart deliveries will kickoff on Monday, March 16, 2026 and continue over the next three months. Residents can learn when carts will be delivered to their address by visiting providenceri.gov/public-works/t… and entering their address into the search field. The new carts will be delivered and the old carts will be removed on residents’ normal trash and recycling collection days during that period. To help ensure a smooth delivery of new carts and removal of old carts, residents should place all their carts, full or empty, at the curb the evening before their delivery date and leave them there until 6 p.m. on that same delivery date!

Winter weather can take a toll on our streets, and with the recent storms, crews are seeing more potholes across Providence. Freeze and thaw cycles, plowing operations and winter conditions can all contribute to potholes forming this time of year. Our teams are actively repairing potholes on city streets and will continue making improvements as we head into the 2026 paving season. If you see a pothole, please report it so it can be addressed as quickly as possible: City streets: providenceri.gov/pvd311 State roads: dot.ri.gov/about/potholes… Providence includes a number of roads maintained by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation. Reports submitted to the correct agency help ensure repairs happen faster. Thank you for helping us keep Providence streets safe.
