It was lovely meeting Laura, the new U.S. Consul General in Hyderabad, and Jim at their beautiful home. Dear Laura and Jim, a very warm welcome to our beautiful city of nawabs, pearls and timeless hospitality. I must give you a small warning though. Hyderabad has a charming way of quietly stealing hearts. Before you know it, it finds its way into you and leaves a mark that stays forever. Dr. Nene, that treadmill perspective is incredible. Most people can’t hold 13 mph for even 60 seconds. In training, I sometimes run short high-intensity intervals at that speed for about 120 seconds, and that alone feels like a proper workout 😂 He essentially held the equivalent of that pace for 42 kilometers, and in several splits he was even faster. 😮 And I genuinely think the vast majority of people don’t yet grasp the scale of what just happened. This isn’t just a fast marathon. It’s a monumental leap in human endurance 💪

For decades the sub-2 hour marathon felt almost impossible. Today Sebastian Sawe ran 1:59:30. The ceiling of human endurance just moved 🤯 Completely mind blowing. And somehow it gets even crazier. Yomif Kejelcha ran 1:59:41 in his debut. Two human beings under two hours in one race. And I can’t help but think of Kelvin Kiptum, my dear friend. Somewhere above I hope he’s smiling and dancing tonight 🕊️ He was meant to chase this moment. Today Sebastian Sawe finished the dream 💪

I have consistently maintained that he is a generational talent. In terms of pure natural ability, he stands right up there with the very best young players I have come across. There is a prodigious level of talent in him, and it is something you immediately recognize when you see him on court. He has been training in my training group for the past three weeks along with coach Irwan, and this period has only reinforced my belief in his potential. Physically he has a strong presence on court. His height gives him excellent reach, and he already possesses a very deep, heavy smash that can put opponents under serious pressure. What also stands out is his defensive instinct. He stays very low, reads the shuttle well, and shows a natural ability to absorb pressure in rallies. Like any young athlete with immense potential, there are areas that will determine how far he ultimately goes. Fitness and the ability to remain injury free will be absolutely critical in shaping his long term career, and that is something we must continue to focus on carefully. What has been particularly encouraging over these last three weeks is his attitude. He has trained with great seriousness alongside me, Coach Irwan, and the extended team, and the early signs of progress are already beginning to show.

There’s something special about coming back to where your story first began. She started here, took on the world, carried a billion dreams on her shoulders and built a legacy that speaks louder than words ever could. And now, she’s back where it all began. Welcome home, Sindhu.

Some rivals become part of your journey forever. Carolina was one of them. We first played each other when we were 15 or 16 year old girls in the Maldives, and from then on we went on to share so many battles. To be honest, you were also a complete pain on court. The constant shouting, the intensity, the little tricks, they would get to anyone. But your skill, speed and fighting spirit were second to none. People remember the big matches and even the ugly spat we had in that third set over picking the shuttle. I’ll admit I was completely infuriated that day. But a few months later we sat across from each other over coffee in Madrid, talking and laughing, and in that moment there was nothing but respect. That’s the Carolina I’ll always remember. I’ll also always be grateful for the incredible camaraderie our generation built. Our batch of girls made women’s singles such a special place to compete in, and I honestly don’t know if badminton has seen something like it before or will again. Thank you for every battle, every lesson and most of all the friendship. I wish you the happiest retirement, Carolina 🤗 Badminton will miss you. And so will I ❤️ @CarolinaMarin

A very sad loss for the community. I had only a few interactions with Hari, the last being just a few weeks ago. My husband, who loves rallying, always spoke about Hari with such admiration and fondness. He was truly a legend of Indian motorsport and inspired so many. We have also lost Arjuna Awardee sailor Mahesh Ramchandran, an outstanding sportsman who brought great pride to the country. Two remarkable individuals from two different sporting worlds, both leaving behind legacies that will be remembered for years to come. My heartfelt condolences to their families and loved ones. May their souls rest in peace and may their families find strength in this difficult time
