@DavidBrante @TreSMguld Ta bara Gaza.

The Japanese restaurant owner finishes with a common complaint other restaurants have expressed. They used to accept orders from foreigners who didn’t speak Japanese – but it took too much time and was “tedious.”

@e12251525 @macastel3 It is even worse in tier 2 cities with population in the 10s of millions. Malls malls malls. There is more culture in a Swedish city of 150,000 people.

Did you know there are only 74 theatres in Shanghai vs 241 in London? This with 3X the population... If Shanghai has the ambition (as it should) to become a global city and attract tourists/talents they must increase the number of theatres and cultural offerings

After a difficult start, seems that The tallest tower in China is reaching 80% occupancy. Lots of blue chip and international names have office there. J Hotel (local brand) from Floors 86 to 98.

This is actually hilarious. China has 2 stabbings attacks recently - two - and the FT is doing a whole piece on the "crime wave" that's overtaking the country, how that reveals deep issues in China, bla bla bla. Meanwhile in London alone last year there were 12,786 stabbings. A subject, I checked, that the FT hasn't written a single article about in 6 years (even though it's their own country)...

@macastel3 No protein and just carbs will make the food cheaper as well. For example noodles, pretty cheap with just noodles and like 5 grams of meat.

@nikstankovic_ It's a huge job market, as every company working with China needs Chinese speakers. Be it service providers for Chinese coming to the West, or western companies selling to China. All need Mandarin speakers.

Unfortunately I have to challenge the career opportunities with Mandarin here. I am not the only one saying this. There are some career opportunities for Mandarin speakers and they are mostly working as translators for Chinese companies world wide. But the number of these jobs is limited. For example in Serbia where probably 10 large Chinese companies operate (disproportionately a lot), there will be perhaps 5-10 Chinese speakers in each working as translators and interpreters. So that is 50-100 jobs, not a lot even for small Serbia. I am not sure the number is even that high in reality, perhaps 30 max. There are maybe 3-4 at the Serbian foreign ministry? So it will be like that in every country. In the US and European countries, given sanctions and tariffs, the number is likely to proportionally be even slower. And translator jobs is what they are all going to be. So if you speak Mandarin, you can only really do it in your country. Like, I couldn't go to Vietnam to translate for the Chinese because I don't speak Vietnamese. I could only do it in Serbia. Speaking Mandarin unfortunately does not open the Chinese labor market for anyone. You don't need to speak it to be an English teacher. Other jobs you are not going to get even if you speak the language. At some high level, you won't need it either--the Chinese at that level will speak excellent English. Assuming a parallel with English fails. You should learn Mandarin for cultural reasons. It is not a business language and I don't see it becoming one. If someone wants to challenge this that's great, but please provide a path how that happens.

Mind-blowing 15 million foreigners visited China in the first six months of this year. Tourism is booming thanks to Beijing’s new visa-free travel for many countries. And some young people are even speaking fluent Chinese. Imagine the career opportunities for these kids in the future!

@RuoyuLi154525 @DrHueyLi @CTankie1917 No it is not. Looks like photos sometime between 2010-2020 I would say. Workers living in such dorms is still very common for tons of millions of workers in China. Just walk by any construction site and you will see those blue and white temporary dorms where workers live.

I hate to post images like these. But a lot of y'all think dictatorship is OK because "China is doing OK". Sorry, only the side of China on TV is doing OK. You have no idea what the unrepresented part looks like. These are some random photos of worker dormitories in China.
