@LFC_Australia @FIFAWorldCup I was lucky enough to be in South Africa for it. In our match against Serbia my seat was above the goal that Holman's shot went in to. And yes, it gave us more hope of getting through to the last 16. Unbelievable moment.

@Hirald0 Add to that the Group E and F winners playing 2nd place getters in the Round of 16 while the other winners play 3rd placed teams. There are imbalances everywhere. The 48 team format is just the 24 format doubled.

@Hirald0 There has never been a proper solution when you don't have 8, 16 or 32 teams. I just pointed out in a chat I'm in that, in the 24 into 16 tournaments, Group A and D winners avoid another group winner until the semis while the others don't.

I know I'm shamelessly reheating my own content here but generally thinking about the WC today, I continually come to the conclusion that the format itself sucks much more than 48 teams being present (not that I was keen on expanding the tournament itself beyond 32 teams either).

(Because I royally hate the best two-thirds of third-place teams progressing format that football stupidly can't think beyond when it comes to 12/24/48-team tournaments. I additionally reiterate the below.)
