Very sad to read about Dr Navdeep Singh, #NEETUG topper and 2nd Yr Radiology resident , who allegedly died due to #suicide by hanging. Anyone can suffer from Clinical Depression and being academically great or financially successful doesn't make one immune to #Depression. This condition is still poorly understood even among medicos and many believe it can be controlled from within with a stronger will power. Depleted serotonin is not going to reverse by talking or by trying to see the positive side of things. One loses the ability to do these things due to this neurochemical balance. One who feels hopeless, worthless and helpless is not going to follow any of your advice. Just like any other illness, Depression needs treatment in the form of medications and therapy. If anyone around you feels low pervasively for over 2 weeks and has stopped carrying out their regular social activities, then alert their immediate family members or arrange for a clinical evaluation.
