@TheShook215 @Vick_8122 Look, I'm not the biggest fan of HHH run during that era, but that feud was almost perfect (their Backlash match was probably the weakest part). Batista was booked perfectly that year.

@Pablo92_ignacio @Vick_8122 A lot of criticism this year about Oba Femi was getting stuck in a Lesnar feud after convincingly beating him at Mania. Batista did the same thing. Instead of a new feud, we got the recycled “HHH is being a meanie to Flair, here comes the swerve” crap they did in 2002.

@TheShook215 @Vick_8122 Batista's problems didn't start with HHH. In fact, Raw's ratings went up that year because of that rivalry, and 2005 was much better for Dave than for Cena, who just had two boring feuds with Jericho and Angle. Dave was way more over than Cena in 2005."

@Vick_8122 Always said him beating HHH at mania 21, only to be stuck in a feud with him for the next 2 ppvs, kinda stifled him. Once he and Cena swapped brands, that’s when it was obviously clear Batista was #2.

@BackupHangman The Invasion, as a storyline, is bad in itself, but the main event scene is spectacular—Austin vs. Angle, Rock vs. Jericho,the rise of RVD. The Hardys and Dudley Boyz had a great year, Edge vs. Christian is quite entertaining, and both 5-on-5 tag matches are excellent.

@BackupHangman The funny thing is Randy actually has better heel runs — 2003–04 in Evolution, his 2005–06 SmackDown run, his 2007–08 title run, and 2020, which is his best version. On the other hand, 2009 Orton had those endless feuds with HHH and Cena that made me stop watching raw.

09 Randy had like two good matches and after the sick Triple H mania build had a Shane thing that didn’t work, a shitty Batista program that killed Dave as a babyface, a Cena program that I sincerely think is one of the worst main event feuds of the decade, and then a fun month with Kofi with a great MSG angle before he killed that. It’s a run deified by zoomers that watch the Randy Orton Savage comps on TikTok but nobody enjoyed most of this in real time and the online sentiment was that this was the third Randy Orton push that feels overbearing. I was there, it sucked. He has always historically been a fun tv act as a bad guy but a significantly better worker as a babyface. 2011 and 2022/2024 Randy>
