The World Trade Organization’s 14th Ministerial Conference (MC14) officially opens today in Yaoundé, Cameroon. On the margins of #MC14, Pacific Ministers and senior officials convened at the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Ministerial Meeting. The session included an interactive dialogue with WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, focusing on shared priorities and cooperation among ACP members. Ministers and senior officials from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Tonga, and Vanuatu were in attendance, reflecting strong Pacific engagement in the lead-up to formal negotiations. The 55th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting (PIFLM) will be convened from 30 August to 4 September 2026 in Palau under the theme B.E.L.A.U – Building Economies: Life. Action. Unity. Marking a key milestone in preparations, the President of Palau, His Excellency Surangel Whipps Jr., today signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Hosting Arrangements with the Secretary General, Baron Divavesi Waqa. The Regional Disaster Risk Financing workshop was held from 3–5 February 2026, co-hosted by the Pacific Catastrophe Risk Insurance Company (PCRIC)and the Asian Development Bank. The workshop forms part of the ongoing work of the Pacific Resilience Partnership (PRP) Technical Working Group on Disaster Risk Finance, delivered through PCRIC and other regional partners. This was the third regional workshop convened by PCRIC to strengthen understanding of the Disaster Risk Financing (DRF) landscape across the Pacific. The PRP Technical Working Group on DRF was endorsed by the Forum Economic Ministers Meeting (FEMM) in 2021. It provides expert advisory support to FEMM and serves as a regional mechanism to support Forum Island Countries on DRF. The Pacific Regional DRF Roadmap was endorsed at the Forum Economic Ministers Meeting (FEMM) in 2023. The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, through its Resilience Team, coordinates the PRP Technical Working Group on DRF, with the Government of Fiji as Chair. The Resilience Team facilitated sessions on National DRF strategies, including interactive discussions to identify gaps and opportunities. #OneBluePacific #Regionlism
