Grain Sorghum harvest continues across QLD and NSW including this trial at Von Peins’ McAllister with @PacificSeeds Maestro and Charger IG varieties coming in 1st and 2nd. Overall averages of 10 t/ha in sorghum, with Maestro averaging 11 t/ha. Fantastic results! #pacificseeds #grainsorghum

Rollinson farming has been producing sorghum in Surat for 20+ years, focusing on improving water and soil management in a region where sorghum isn’t traditionally grown (winter crop historically). Progress accelerated with better water management and also the adoption of a planter equipped with VDrive from precision planting, improving crop establishment. Last season marked a milestone, achieving a record sorghum yield of 5.5 t/ha. This year, Pacific Seeds also ran a hybrid trial on-farm, evaluating different sorghum hybrids across the paddock. The key takeaway? Water management makes the difference. The ongoing challenge? Heat stress, particularly during flowering and grain filling.
