Apparently scoring 50-60% was “emotionally healthy,” above which was a compulsive need for perfection. I scored a 99! Really? (2/3)

I’m always skeptical of research that wants to grab a headline. But I do know, firsthand, that doing volunteer work on company time made me a kinder, more open-hearted person when I returned to my job. How could it not? It paid its own unique kind of dividends.

Each week we had a couple of hours to go offsite and help a local organization, if we chose to. Some of our employees helped to build homes for Habitat for Humanity. A few tended a community garden. I delivered meals for Mobile Meals.

I read a recent @nytimes article where researchers concluded that workplace wellness programs had little benefit. The exception: When workers are allowed to do volunteer work. nytimes.com/2024/01/15/hea…

MLK was a deeply spiritual man, but I think he was referring to more than his spiritual beliefs. We need faith in ourselves, to discover our part of the planet to shine up. We don’t need to be MLK–we just need to follow his lead to build a more compassionate, connected world.
