Italy was one of the axis powers, together with Japan. Spain was politically aligned with Nazi Germany. The fact that the Italian team and the Spanish rider doesn't even think about the implication here is just appalling

The dismissal and/or ignorance of what Japan did in China during WWII just goes to show how Eurocentric history education is. 20 million dead, and the atrocities that Imperial Japan committed in China (and in Korea) are worse than anything the Nazis did in Europe

putting all the historical issues aside, this is simply bad for business for QJMotor. They came in the world championship to appeal to their customers, not to offend them. Now their brand image is associated with the last thing any Chinese brand would like to be seen with

and some of them did this in the past. Daniel Holgado did it before, guess who he rides for next year. This ignorance is the result if the US leting Japan off the hook after the war so it could be its outpost in the region against USSR (now Russia) and China

It’s also another failing of MotoGP PR as a whole though, because these kids should be better informed of this stuff. He wasn’t the only one to wear one on Sunday - but he was the only one with a Chinese sponsor to do it…

Exactly. What's even worse is that Japan never distanced itself from militarism or apologized to the Chinese, Korean, Southeast Asian people for their unspeakable crime. Many of their so called cultural symbols are heavily associated with their actions in WWII
