It's odd that expertise requires years of devoted study, but an opinion requires only a moment of exposure, and yet can feel fully formed.
The more deeply you understand something, the more complexity and nuance it reveals, until the truly informed no longer feel entitled to a simple opinion at all.
All it takes is one subject (even a brief, genuine attempt to understand just one thing fully) to realize you can't. That single realization, once it lands, changes everything.
If you can't know everything about one thing, how could you possibly hold firm opinions about all the rest?
