#ChronicPain patients might be interested in the Kouri Richins murder trial in Utah. The crack defense team has cooked up the unlikely theory that the murder victim was actually a street-drug addicted, secretly gay, chronic pain patient who carelessly overdosed on illicit fentanyl. I guess they think bigotry against pain patients will help their case. Did Andrew Kolodny and Anna Lempke act as trial consultants? @StanfordMed
Court TV@CourtTV

Becky Lloyd, who knew both Kouri and Eric Richins, testified Thursday. She described a conversation with Kouri during which Kouri said she felt trapped in her marriage, had no way out, and that it would be better if Eric were dead. Investigators believe Kouri poisoned Eric.

@ZachWritesStuff The real concern should be whether someone is experiencing delusional thought content if they ARE NOT angry & upset about the state of the world!

@MaryBowdenMD @StefanKertesz 10/ Please don't limit your support for health freedom to COVID. True medical freedom is about supporting the right of consenting adults to make decisions about their own care (or minors in their charge) even if it differs from what you would choose for yourself.

@MaryBowdenMD @StefanKertesz 9/ My experiences w/ chronic pain have helped me realize pts should have the right to choose alt treatment protocols for COVID (or cancer/others conditions) w/ their HCP, even though I wouldn't choose IVM or HCQ for myself.

I got a lot of heat for criticizing the doctor who prescribed Percocet for my 90 year-old dad’s back pain. Let me reiterate: It is blatant malpractice to prescribe Percocet as first-line treatment for acute low back pain - especially for a 90 year old man who is otherwise pretty healthy.

@ChadDKollas @US_FDA .... and a few of these folks who are pushing the hardest for prescribing reduction might just have a twinge of pathological narcissism.

Narcissistic traits (pathological narcissism) affect up to 12%–18% of people (per my.clevelandclinic.org/health/disease…). The prevalence of opioid addiction in patient's taking opioid therapy for pain, according to a @US_FDA Postmarketing Report (PMR) release on May 5, 2025, is approximately 1.5%. Pathologic narcissism is 10 times more prevalent than addiction to opioid therapy. Think about that...

@TSBurkhardt @StefanKertesz @ibdgirl76 2/ well there are some lousy addiction medicine and doctors out there, just like every other field, there are also some really great ones too.

@TSBurkhardt @StefanKertesz @ibdgirl76 1/None of us like getting lumped in w/ others in a way that's disparaging. The addiction med docs who did this were wrong and we'll never know how many of their under-medicated pts experienced OD they might have otherwise avoided, or even lost their lives.

For every physician thinking that forcible switching of opioid agonists to Buprenorphine is proven good or safe, or guideline-endorsed, you were hoodwinked. It is not guideline endorsed as noted by @ibdgirl76 here (I read the same guidelines and my reading is like hers) I am not anti-bupe But forcible switching is justifiable only when you are (a) faced with an obvious and self evident risk (not just opioid dose) and (b) prepared to deal with potential consequences of traumatizing your patient Don’t discount the harm we can do here. patreon.com/posts/tale-of-…
