Pakistan at the UN Security Council As an elected member of the UN Security Council (2025-26), Pakistan brought its principled voice, diplomatic experience, and steadfast and unwavering commitment to multilateralism. Guided by the vision of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Pakistan’s founding father, and the ideals of peace, dialogue, and international law, we consistently advocated the peaceful resolution of disputes, equitable and democratic reform of the United Nations, and the upholding of the principles and purposes of the UN Charter. Had a warm and most cordial telephone conversation with H.E. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev today. I congratulated him on the successful constitutional referendum, reflecting the trust of the Kazakh people in his leadership and reform agenda. We reaffirmed our shared commitment to deepening Pakistan–Kazakhstan ties, especially in trade, connectivity and regional cooperation. We also exchanged views on regional developments and agreed that dialogue and diplomacy remain essential for lasting peace and stability. Extended warm greetings to President Tokayev and the brotherly people of Kazakhstan on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, with best wishes for their continued peace and prosperity.

It was my pleasure to speak with His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman and convey warm Eid greetings to him and the brotherly people of Oman. I expressed heartfelt condolences to him on the loss of precious lives and injuries during the recent attacks on Oman and reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity and support with Oman during this difficult time. We agreed on the importance of peace, stability, and dialogue, and reaffirmed our commitment to further strengthening the enduring Pakistan–Oman partnership. Reiterated my invitation to His Majesty to undertake an official visit to Pakistan and accepted his most gracious invite to visit Oman on mutually convenient dates.

Spoke with His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al Khaled Al Sabah, Crown Prince of Kuwait, and conveyed warm Eid-ul-Fitr greetings and best wishes for His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, as well as the people of Kuwait. I strongly condemned the recent attacks on Kuwait, extended heartfelt condolences on the loss of precious lives, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with our Kuwaiti brothers and sisters. We agreed on the importance of dialogue, unity, and collective efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region. Reiterated my invitation to His Highness to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at his convenience and accepted a most gracious invitation from the Crown Prince to visit Kuwait on mutually convenient dates.

Spoke with His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan to convey warm Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to him, the Royal Family, and the brotherly people of Jordan. We discussed the evolving situation in the Middle East. I strongly condemned the recent attacks on Jordan and expressed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with our Jordanian brothers and sisters. We agreed on the urgent need for restraint, de-escalation, and dialogue to restore peace. Reaffirmed our commitment to further strengthening Pakistan–Jordan ties across all areas of mutual interest.

Spoke with my dear brother, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of the Republic of Türkiye, this evening and conveyed warm Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to him, his family, and the brotherly people of Türkiye. During our most cordial exchange, we discussed the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East. I strongly condemned the attacks on our brotherly country Turkiye as well as other brotherly countries in the region. I reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast solidarity with Turkiye as well as with other brotherly Gulf countries, and conveyed our readiness to support efforts aimed at de-escalation and dialogue. We urged maximum restraint and stressed upon the need for resolving differences through dialogue and diplomacy. We also exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan and I acknowledged Türkiye’s constructive role in supporting peace efforts, between Pakistan and Afghanistan, particularly its contribution towards the recent temporary ceasefire during Eid days. Spoke with my brother Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim this afternoon to convey warm Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to him, the Government, and the people of Malaysia. We discussed the evolving situation in Iran and the Gulf region, and agreed on the urgent need for de-escalation and continued joint efforts to promote peace through dialogue and diplomacy. We also discussed the situation in Iran and the Gulf region, and agreed on the urgent need for de-escalation and resolution of all disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.

Spoke with my brother President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi this evening to convey warm Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to him and the people of Egypt. I reaffirmed the strong and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Egypt, and appreciated Egypt’s constructive role in advancing peace efforts in the Middle East. We also discussed the evolving situation in Iran and the Gulf region, and agreed on the importance of continued diplomatic efforts for de-escalation and restoration of peace and stability.

Spoke with my dear brother Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to convey warm Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to him and the people of Bangladesh. We fondly recalled the historic, fraternal and familial bonds between our two countries. I reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening our bilateral cooperation across all spheres. We also exchanged views on regional developments and the situation in the Middle East, and agreed on the importance of dialogue and diplomacy for peace and stability.

Through this resolution renewing mandate of UNAMA, the Security Council has expressed serious concern over the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan which “continue to constitute a threat to international peace and security” and called on the Taliban “to take active, immediate, demonstrable and concrete measures” to combat terrorism “in all its forms and manifestations, wherever and by whomever committed”. Explanation of Vote by Ambassador Usman Jadoon, Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN, At the UN Security Council on the Adoption of Resolution for the mandate renewal of UNAMA (16th March 2026) ******** Mr. President, Pakistan has voted in favor of the resolution just adopted, extending UNAMA’s mandate by three months. Pakistan supports UNAMA in promoting peace, security and stability in Afghanistan which confronts multiple challenges, particularly the increasing threat of terrorism, human rights, narcotics and diminishing humanitarian aid. We commend China for its role as penholder and for its sincere efforts to forge consensus by taking on board the concerns of all Council members. We also welcome the unanimous adoption of this resolution. Mr. President, Pakistan has consistently asserted that the foremost among the challenges faced in Afghanistan is the deteriorating security situation and exponential rise in the threat of terrorism emanating from Afghanistan. Elements within the Taliban regime are actively collaborating, let alone providing a permissive environment to several terrorist groups such as the TTP, BLA and Majeed Brigade, ISIL-K, Al Qaeda and ETIM, operating with impunity inside Afghanistan and responsible for cross-border attacks against Pakistani civilians and law enforcement personnel, targeting critical infrastructure and public places. Through this resolution, the Council has expressed serious concern over the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan which “continue to constitute a threat to international peace and security” and called on the Taliban “to take active, immediate, demonstrable and concrete measures” to combat terrorism “in all its forms and manifestations, wherever and by whomever committed”. Through this resolution, the Council also outlines its expectation to strengthen “the safe and secure management of weapons and ammunition to prevent their diversion to terrorist groups.” Mr. President, As mandated, UNAMA has a responsibility to effectively “monitor and analyse the security dynamics across the country” that include a “better understanding of the illicit economy”, supporting efforts to “prevent and address the illicit trade and destabilizing accumulation of small arms and light weapons and their diversion in Afghanistan and the region” and supporting “efforts to create conditions conducive” to the reintegration of refugee populations in Afghanistan. We must also remain cautious of disinformation advanced by local Taliban elements who continue to create obstacles for access to UNAMA personnel across the country. At the same time, we hope UNAMA will report objectively about the security developments on ground, by taking into account the legitimate security concerns and expectations of Afghanistan’s immediate neighbors, who are faced with serious threats from Afghan soil. Finally, we hope the next three months will allow us to review UNAMA’s role in Afghanistan in a manner that will help us achieve the long term goals of peace and stability in Afghanistan that is at peace with itself and its neighbors.
