Shopify just mass-democratized something most people won't register for another 6 months. $378 billion in GMV. 5.6 million stores. And they just gave every AI coding agent direct write access to the entire store backend: products, orders, inventory, SEO, images. That screenshot is a solo merchant typing "Optimize all my products for SEO" and Claude updating 32 product listings, rewriting alt text, applying meta descriptions, and verifying every change. One prompt. No Fiverr freelancer. No $200/month app subscription. No agency retainer. The old cost stack for a small Shopify store: $200-500/month in apps, $2,000+ for an SEO audit, $50/hour for a VA. That just collapsed into a terminal command. 4.8 million active merchants. Most run 10-200 SKUs and manage everything by clicking through the admin one product at a time. Claude Code plus MCP just gave every solo founder the operational capacity of a five-person team. And Shopify isn't building the agent. They're building the protocol that makes every agent a Shopify agent. That's the platform play.

Same, I have a similar setup. A mix of Obsidian, Cursor (for md), and vibe-coded web terminals as front-end. Since I do a podcast, the number/diversity of research interests is very large. But the knowledge-base approach has been working great. For answers, I often have it generate dynamic html (with js) that allows me to sort/filter data and to tinker with visualizations interactively. Another useful thing is I have the system generate a temporary focused mini-knowledge-base for a particular topic that I then load into an LLM for voice-mode interaction on a long 7-10 mile run. So it becomes an interactive podcast while I run, where I ask it questions and listen to the answers to learn more. Anyway, heading out for a run now, thanks for the write-up 👊

Personal rule of thumb: don't use an LLM for something that a deterministic program can do. I get it, LLMs are exciting, but they don't mean that software ceases to exist. They are fantastic at dealing with human language and ambiguity, but are terrible (by design and for good reason) at repeatability. To borrow terminology from the book Thinking Fast and Slow, LLMs are "system 2"...slower, more "expensive" (for LLMs, both in time and dollars), but flexible and creative. Traditional programs are "system 1" ..fast and cheap, but inflexible and dumb. Instead of trying to put an LLM in the "hot loop" of your program, it's usually worth asking an agent to write a deterministic program to do the thing you need done. Since code is "cheap", this deterministic tool can do exactly what you want it to, and doesn't consume tokens on every execution. (This applies to agents too..I find myself regularly yelling at Claude to stop repeatedly generating the same 30 lines of python to inspect a file, and instead telling it to generate a 3-line shell script wrapper around jq that it can check in and call repeatedly)
