Taxpayer spending on a student in traditional public schools is almost twice what an ESTF student gets. PPI Visiting Fellow Jonathan Butcher says taxpayers should ask legislators why they are suddenly allergic to cost savings (and education opportunities). palmettopromise.org/sc-lawmakers-s…

If we wish to debate the merits of school choice in South Carolina, we must be precise with our terminology, be honest with the program’s accountability measures (both academic and financial), and deal with each other respectfully. palmettopromise.org/the-unbundled-…

Kentucky Senate Republicans just held a FUNERAL for Democrat Governor Andy Beshear's FAILED VETO of a school choice bill. The Senate voted to OVERRIDE the veto 31–5. The House voted 77–14 to OVERRIDE. Governor Andy Beshear went to a private school.

As we continue to celebrate our 30th anniversary of fighting for universal education, we look back at the vision that sparked it all. Milton Friedman's 1955 essay, "The Role of Government in Education" ended up being the wakeup call the nation needed to start thinking differently about the education status quo. edchoice.org/2026-the-idea-…

Exciting as this is, we are reminded of the movie Waiting for Superman, anticipating families’ heartbreak when they are waitlisted and cannot access the education freedom that they desire and deserve. Universal eligibility is not the same as universal school choice. Texas, and every state, must pass fully (formula) funded education freedom, where all dollars follow the child to the school their parents choose.

From the very beginning, our nation was built on the idea that laws should be made by those accountable to the people. But today, many of the most impactful rules on our economy and daily lives are created by unelected agencies, with little direct accountability to voters. That’s not what our system was designed to do. The Small Business Regulatory Freedom Act brings transparency and accountability back into the process by requiring elected legislators to approve major regulations before they take effect. It’s a simple idea rooted in a fundamental principle: those who make the laws should answer to the people.

The claims of misspent program funds that came out of Arizona recently were wildly overstated. Inaccurate claims like this can be used as fear tactics to prevent families from accessing life-changing programs. The Arizona Department of Education conducted an analysis with more scientific sampling approach that found only 2% of spending was on items that weren't allowed. edchoice.org/misspending-ra…

Kentucky @GovAndyBeshear just vetoed a bill to opt his state in to the Education Freedom Tax Credit, claiming it would “divert students and dollars from public education.” Governor, that’s not how this works. This is a surge of dollars into education, not diverting from anyone.

Kentuckians have said loud and clear: Public dollars should only be used for public education. The Republican supermajority hasn't listened. I have. Today, I am standing with our people and vetoing House Bill 1.

What one State Superintendent once considered against state policy in 2012 was later determined by another to be a district-level decision in 2015. Our current Uniform Grading Policy is silent on grade floors. Here's a brief history of SC grade floors: palmettopromise.org/a-brief-histor…
