Thirty four days ago, Ukraine responded positively to the U.S. proposal for a full and unconditional ceasefire. And for thirty four days now, Russia has been openly refusing to cease fire. Putin remains focused on continuing the war. Russian state propagandists are preparing their audience for the idea that diplomacy will not bring any results.
There is only one reason for this – in Moscow, they are not afraid. If there is no strong enough pressure on Russia, they will keep doing what they are used to – they will keep waging war.
We all want this to end. Peace is needed – and it must be lasting. That is why Ukraine always works constructively with its partners, in all formats that can bring security and restore peace. We are not just ready for peace quickly – Ukraine has never wanted this war, not for a single second.
And when the war ends, the world will clearly know: it happened because Russia, the aggressor, was forced into peace. The same aggressor that came to Ukrainian land in 2014 – 11 years ago. And it’s important for everyone that this doesn’t take more years.

Tell the governor and the Legislature that it's time to get this budget done for our students and our schools. mac.nysut.org/action/950

So this idea to do a parish mission at an earlier time sparked a bit of conversation & some blowback.
But I wasn’t posting it out of my mere selfish desire to go to a parish mission. I likely won’t go to my parish’s mission this year, anyway, because it starts at 7, and it’s with a priest I’ve heard speak before. So if I have to choose between being home for dinner & bedtime or the mission with a talk I’ve likely heard, I’m choosing home.
But this was what was told to me, last year, at the end of a parish mission I spoke at.
A mom came up to me on the last night & lamented that she & her husband had to split up attending the mission, because one parent had to stay home with the kids. A mission beginning at 7 meant they wouldn’t be home til 8:30, maybe, and kids wouldn’t be in bed before 9. And with a 6 o’clock wake up the next morning, that wasn’t feasible for their family.
Parishes offer a lot of things, and not everything is for everyone, sure. But a parish wide Lenten mission, especially one billed as “THE EVENT” of Lent, should be accessible to the widest range of folks.
Scheduling something maybe even just a half hour earlier, so a family could come together, isn’t too much to ask.
That mission in Maryland, with the mom who only came to one night, was a 7 pm start. We had a full house each night. But few families. A few weeks later, I did a mission in Texas. We started by 6, and live streamed it each night as well, and it was also packed. And a lot of folks who came straight from work went out together after for food & fellowship.
The earlier time worked for everyone.

Dear parishes, 7 pm is too late for a Lenten mission on a weeknight. Offer a meal at 5:30. Talk at 6. Over by 7. Also, lay men & women can speak at parish missions too, not just priests. Signed, Parents of little kids who would love to participate in parish life

@KatiePMcGrady @SaraPerla8 Once I got to do a small group study during lent, but only because it started at eight.

@KatiePMcGrady @SaraPerla8 At six o’clock, I am still trying to get dinner on the table for everyone! I’ve never been able to participate in activities like women’s retreats and Lenten retreats because they’re always in the middle of the kids’ activities.

There is an aggressor: Russia.
There is a victim: Ukraine.
We were right to help Ukraine and sanction Russia three years ago—and to keep doing so.
By “we,” I mean the Americans, the Europeans, the Canadians, the Japanese, and many others.
Thank you to all who have helped and continue to do so. And respect to those who have been fighting since the beginning—because they are fighting for their dignity, their independence, their children, and the security of Europe.
