National Aviation Day celebrates Canada's air transportation safety, strength and success. Without pioneers like J.A.D. McCurdy who achieved the first powered heavier-than-air flight in Canada we may not be where we are today in aviation. It's such a privilege to be able to fly and share aerial views of our beautiful part of Canada with passengers and our followers on social media. This photo, taken Feb. 16, 2026, shows a ship being loaded with salt in the Goderich harbour, along with pathways cut through the ice into the harbour. 2026 scenic flight booking will be available online by this coming weekend at PappleAviation.ca.

Do you recognize these grain elevators and the restaurant? The restaurant building was built in 1907 and served as a Canadian Pacific Railway station, in 2005 it was moved over 100' to it's current location. PappleAviation.ca: online booking for the 2026 season will be available soon on our website.

We flew the shoreline from Bayfield to Point Clark on Sunday and saw a variety of lake ice formations and open water. Looking south toward Grand Bend wevery little open water but as we got to Goderich and Port Albert there was more open water than there was ice. Online booking for the 2026 season will be online in late Feb: PappleAviation.ca

A standing corn field with the rows on the left side burried in snow all the way from the edge of the road - a good example of how snow fences work. PappleAviation.ca

Do you recognize this dam, built in 1965 at a cost of over 2 million dollars? Seeing dams and reservoirs from above shows such a contrast between the volume of water being held in the reservoir and the small streams on the outlet side of the dam. Fly at 2025 prices this season with a gift certificate bought before Feb. 1st: PappleAviation.ca for online gift certificate bookings. Our 2026 schedule and updated prices will be posted in February.

This photo is from mid-Feb. a few years ago along the Lake Huron shoreline. We hope to get up for a flight later this month - it will be interesting to see what the ice shelf looks like this year. We're working on website updates and the 2026 online booking calendar which will be online by late Feb. PappleAviation.ca
