@tboyblues @seanorr imo stating directly that it was to give a voice to the people who spoke obfuscates the point of affordability (which i agree with, though i do believe that any housing is better than no housing). i respect the protest vote but not the way it was represented.

@ParisEsther @seanorr the desperate working-class people that elected sean won’t be able to afford the apartments in this building. only 10% were set aside for city wide market level rates, which is already out of reach for many working-class people. sean made the right call.

@uglyblender this is about optics. the pull quote reads the way i read it regardless of what sean meant. if it needs to be explained, then it needs to be considered through the lens that it’s read through before it’s explained. most people aren’t gonna post a reaction on twitter,

@ParisEsther When you give an interview you don't know how it's going to be quoted and split up in an article. Sean's messaging throughout it is consistent and accurate, you'd know that if you read it. It's not his fault you interpreted a screenshot of a paragraph as being Hardwickesque.

@uglyblender I think it was a mistake to say something quippy that comes off hardwick-coded (that will of course be pull quoted!) when the intention of the protest vote is to call attn to something specific. lots of eyes on him! value in clarity.

@ParisEsther The screenshot Peter posted doesn't show the full story. A lot of the opposition to this was due to the fact that it falls short when it comes to below-market rentals, that's who Sean is referring to giving a voice to.
