Street trees help us feel happier...
..a bold claim, but one backed up by a recent German study, that showed that living in proximity to street trees saw a reduction in the level of anti-depressants prescriptions.
So let's fill our streets with trees!

The role of street trees 🌳in reducing flash-flooding🌊
Simply, they SLOW THE RATE🏃♂️rainwater builds up in our streets 👇
🫴Holding water in their canopies
🧽 Roots enable the ground to absorb more water
Plus 🌳🌳🌳they cool our cities, thus lowering air moisture. Pretty cool😎

🥵 Urban heat stress (and all its consequences) are yet another hidden cost of monopolising our public spaces for cars.
Time for change!

Street trees even help reduce crime…🌳🧑🤝🧑
How?🤔
..by creating more liveable/attractive neighbourhoods, where more people want to spend time outside. Promoting cohesion, better health, and civic pride.
Evidence…🔎
…a US showed from Baltimore showed, that a 10 percent increase in trees roughly equated a 12 percent decrease in crime.

The @ilo report on the impacts of extreme heat is another reminder of #ClimateInequality and the urgent need for #ClimateAction. People living in poverty are being hit first and worst from a crisis they did not create.

@CreateAStirSA 💔❤️🩹 so very sorry, Rachelle. The love you and he shared will last forever. Sending much love to you, and gentle snuggles for Jack.

@alexlansdowne @andrewdeblocqmp You need more people with balanced mindsets capable of seeing the far bigger picture, the human well-being and nature connections, the reality of urban nature & human need, the reality of rural nature & human need. "We need more conservationists" is way too simplistic.
English

Thank you. The Mayor encourages me to keep going and be more ambitious; and I get a lot of support from other councillors.
But we need more conservationists to become politicians and be at the decision making table. As far as I know it’s only me & @andrewdeblocqmp!

Thanks Alex for this incredible oversight and reporting! This is just so incredibly important that our public reps really get their hands wet and their boots dirty and informing the public. How many local govt reps responsible for enviro management do this kind of legwork?

By planting trees in our parks and public spaces, we raise awareness about their environmental, social, and economic advantages.
Let's advocate for a greener, more sustainable future! 🌳💚

🌳Trees = street air-conditioning ❄️
As much as we love hot sunny weather 🌞 it’s a lot more pleasant experiencing it living on a shady tree-lined street.
Tree-less streets become concrete suntraps - hot and uncomfortable.
Green streets are healthy streets👍🌳
