I’ve spent a lot of time looking at the Charter. I think it’s time to talk about the people. I have questions. #lawtwitter /1

@LawScribes Yup - in theory. In practice I think they should have been left well enough alone

For World Poetry Day, a reminder from Hansard that some need to hear: "You are an expert on jam, but when it comes to poetry you are a failure!" Canada, House of Commons Debates, 17th Parliament, 5th Session, Vol 1, p 968.

Today's Canadian parliamentary history - March 21, 2000: A mistrial for the man who threw paint-filled balloons at the PM's office on Parliament Hill after the jury was shown news broadcasts that, inter alia, made mention of when the defendant was choked by the Prime Minister.

@Fffeisty Not being an author of the piece, I'll let them address their understanding of the Constitution's requirements... my comment is just that I would like the early Debates to be available online (et ce dans les deux langues) for 1875 to 1896.

As someone who loves 🇨🇦 parliamentary history I hate that the early Canadian Senate debates are no longer online in either language because a French language version was never published. It should be published and both versions made available. 1/2

@Fffeisty Ehh, I believe I used the words debates? I am talking about the debates not the Journals :-)

@ParlCharlie The Journals of the Senate are the official record of Senate proceedings and are available online from 1867 in both official languages. Les “procès-verbaux” = les journaux. The Debates are not the official record of proceedings.
