Great to be back at the @ParnellSS Parnell summer school in @AvondaleBeyond, discussing #democracy, #security and #governance issues with Eoin O Malley @AnMailleach and @felixmlarkin. Thanks to the team for a great panel debate, a fitting prelude to #Ivyday tomorrow.

The ceremony was the occasion of what the Evening Telegraph described as scenes 'unheard in the history of Nationalist demonstrations in Dublin' as the Lord Mayor was met with 'hissing, hooting, and booing' by supporters of the Boers. There was even a display of 'fisticuffs'!

An exciting, surreal, weekend as I become leader of the SDLP. We’re building something new, and we’re a party for people of any background who share our vision of a centre left, anti sectarian new Ireland. Take a look at our new party broadcast, shown on UTV & BBC tonight.

'No man has the right to fix the boundary to the march of a nation. No man has the right to say to his country "Thus far shalt thou go and no further".'
Today we mark the anniversary of the 'Uncrowned King of Ireland', Charles Stewart Parnell, who died on 6 October 1891.
