SENSATIONAL: The "Brick Lady" Roda Osman, a 33-year-old woman from Houston, Texas, who went viral in early 2024 after posting a distressing Instagram Live video showing her face severely swollen, has been found guilty for lying about a brick attack and sentenced to 90 days in jail, $42K restitution, 10-year probation, and a 10-year social media ban (10 years prison if violated).
She claimed that a man had attacked her with a brick outside a nightclub because she refused to give him her phone number, sparking outrage over violence against women and leading to a GoFundMe campaign that raised over $42,000 for her.
However, investigations by Houston police and surveillance footage from the nightclub showed that Osman was actually the aggressor in an altercation with Olan Douglas, a man she had been involved with romantically. Instead of a brick, Douglas had struck her with a plastic water bottle during a physical confrontation she initiated. Osman had fabricated the brick attack narrative to garner sympathy, attention, and funds.
She was arrested in January 2024 on felony theft by deception charges related to the fraudulent GoFundMe.
