@kirsty2402 ... and really dig into a concept. Variation of elements of the question and query the boundaries and limits of a concept with the pupils.

@kirsty2402 When I think about pace of Maths lessons, I always think about using AfL wisely - whole class feedback on the entire starter slows the pace (and is surplus to most of the pupils needs). Double edged sword though espousing the need of fast pace, sometimes you have to slow down...

@rpondiscio Not a useful analogy in my opinion. The cook needs to think about how the meal before prepared the child for the new flavours they encounter the next day?! Does the child have to remember the meal deeply?

This has been illuminating. Genuinely wasn’t loaded and don’t mean to be snarky: but would it be fair to say that in most secondary schools there is nobody that understands phonics?
