Age of Sigmar
I have now had the pleasure of playing three games of Age of Sigmar. Thus, I thought to share my first impressions.
First and foremost, this is not a commentary on the lore (I have not read any novel or such set in the Age of Sigmar realms) but on the game itself.
Age of Sigmar is quite dissimilar to Warhammer Old World (I played the 8th edition back in the day) and the two should not be viewed as “competitors” (AoS is thus not a successor to Old World, but something else completely).
Age of Sigmar is a lot simpler to learn (fewer rules) but still offers a great tactical depth. It is also smoother in many ways.
Warhammer Old World allows for a greater variety when it comes to army building (i.e. customising heroes with magical items, for example) and the combat is more complex.
I did not quite know what to expect before trying Age of Sigmar, but I was pleasantly surprised.
It was also very stimulating to be able to use my old Warriors of Chaos army again (the models were on square bases back in the day).

Lastly, I cannot stress enough how much Warhammer (painting or playing) lowers my chronically high cortisol levels 🙏
I will also endeavour to play some games of Old World this year (I just need to complete a Bretonnia army).
