40+ containers thrown into one of our gateways at Althorp. All were full of used and contaminated engine oil, some with oil leaking out. This awful crime never seems to end, if anything it seems even worse. If you see anyone fly-tipping call 999. Conservation@althorp.com

Meanwhile at the other end of the Estate! It's never ending, would anyone want to walk in the countryside if we didn't clear this mess up everytime? Conservation@althorp.com #flytipping #ruralcrime

“This was a day when everything went horribly wrong. It was Halloween...”  These are the opening words to Chapter 1 of #MindfulSoldier - a day when I was shot for the first time, saw several colleagues wounded, and lost to enemy fire a colleague who had been standing right beside me. All quite shocking for a relatively junior leader, but something from which I learnt a huge amount about trust, teamwork, community and resilience and which certainly played a part in setting me up for many other challenges life has chosen to send my way.  So, while I am probably never going to be anyone’s first choice as trick or treat partner (having also been blown up on another Halloween and had a roof collapse on a third...) I do like to spend today reflecting on how lucky I and so many of my friends and colleagues have been and raising a glass to those who are no longer with us, but without whom we would not be here ourselves. Onwards! Order here: geni.us/MindfulSoldier

@PatHaslam It’s awful Pat, there’s too much hatred in the world at the moment, saddens and enrages me in equal measures 😔😡

This is heartbreaking, so much vitriolic hatred, no one should have to suffer this appalling behaviour…..but it’s not about race…..it’s always about race instagram.com/reel/DOBJguOCL…

I met Mr. L the day after his 16th birthday, today is his 68th birthday those years have gone in the blink of an eye. I wish him the best of days and a happy, healthy year, full of laugh out loud moments. Through the eyes of the man I see the boy I fell in love with ❤️

I’ve spoken to close friends of Abdhi Patel, from Northampton, this evening about the loss they are feeling so deeply after she was killed in the Indian air disaster. Abdhi sounds like such a wonderful woman. Condolences to all those who loved her northantstelegraph.co.uk/news/emergency…

Devastated to say goodbye today to Maia - the kindest, sweetest dog I’ve ever known - but also incredibly grateful to have been blessed with 17 years, 1 month and 3 days of love, loyalty and adventure. By my side for the most challenging periods in my life and with more stamps in her passport than most humans, she certainly lived her best life, bringing joy to everyone she met. After bounding into her 17th year just one month ago, seemingly in full health, it was only after a nasty fall and very slow recovery, loss of appetite and rapid weight loss, that we found the culprit - multiple aggressive cancerous masses around her liver and stomach. Given her incredible innings, far exceeding all expectations, we made the decision to ensure she didn’t suffer for a moment longer. To that end, this morning she went to sleep for the final time and should already be bothering every squirrel, rabbit and pigeon in the sky, while also stealing any cat food left unattended. Sleep well darling girl 🐾 Gone but never forgotten 💔

Did you learn something new from this thread—perhaps about Gabrielle Petit herself or the operations of the 'Petit Network' during the First World War? If so, you may wish to follow me @DrHelenFry for many more remarkable and little-known stories from both World Wars. (end).

Dr Helen Fry | WWII Historian
At just 22 years old, she founded her own covert intelligence network during World War One. Captured by the Germans, she was imprisoned, tried, and condemned to death. She faced the firing squad with unwavering courage—refusing a blindfold. This is Gabrielle Petit: (🧵)
