What a pleasure to pore over the county championship cricket scores again. And, with guidance from Rob Key, we can talk knowingly about certain players ‘nudging the selectors’. Starting with the best wk in the land - Ben Foakes of @surreycricket

David Dimbleby splendidly trenchant on @BBCNewsnight covering various subjects. Particularly pleased to hear his support for local radio & @bbcworldservice

Here’s my latest ruse to pass a few agreeable days this summer. Densely-researched (tough gig!), a lot of new gems to me, places to stay included. I’ll pass on airports ⁦@BloomsburyBooks

Admirable interview with a woman of great courage, as she battles incurable cancer. Down-to-earth doesn't do her justice. Good-humoured stoicism that's humbling. An example to us all, including fellow MPs.
Ashley Dalton MP@AshleyDalton_MP

Catch me speaking to @JonnyDymond on @BBCWorldatOne today about my cancer story, the extraordinary privilege of leading the Government’s work on the National Cancer plan, and the extraordinary things people do every day in our communities which aren’t recognised.

No - and he does deserve censure. But I still think there's a bit left in the Stokes tank. He has to bring more clarity to the role, with McC's influence downgraded. And where are the alternative captains at this juncture?
Michael Molloy@mickeyccc

@patmurphybbc So are you saying because of past performances he’s devoid of blame Pat?

Wonder if @ECB_cricket could afford to bin Key & McCullum. Was that a factor in the pathetic whitewash?
lochmill64@lochmill64

@140Shore @patmurphybbc @ECB_cricket They should have been benchmarked against the Ryder Cup captain and management team - proper prep and planning compared to the complete shambles that was the Ashes. On that basis no sane individual could claim that Key/McCullum represent value for what they are paid.

@patmurphybbc @ECB_cricket Sorry for hijacking this thread Pat but just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed listening to you over the years. Always a voice of reason and a voice of authority. Thank you.

We all say daft things when our brains are scrambled. He looked shattered then....
Andy Barton@ajb4371

@patmurphybbc Definitely, although I still think his " There's no place for weak men in my dressing room" was a bit strange especially when some players were obviously struggling on tour.

And that @ECB_cricket squad & management in Oz 21/22 were bedevilled by the unprecedented restrictions due to Covid. Nightmare tour, administratively. Plus injuries to key players. Just one long slog. This recent shambles has no such excuse. It was all about regaining the Ashes.
Stewart Hawtin@HawtinStewart

@patmurphybbc @ECB_cricket Well said Pat. The old pals act has been going on since Key was appointed. And he comments after being interviewed by his mates on Sky yesterday just sums it all up. It was abject failure in Australia and in any other business you’d be sacked or you’d resign. It’s crazy.

Perish the thought that cricket fans - many of whom spent their life savings getting to Oz - should be afforded some insight into how the @ECB_cricket flagged this one through.
Alex Smith@alexdsmiff

@patmurphybbc @ECB_cricket I agree Pat. The idea that the ‘internal review’ will not be published makes me wonder if there’s actually been a review or have they just come up with some sound bites over a pint.

I was the reporter pitchside for @5liveSport that day. I reckon Mark Bosnich at his peak was the best @AVFCOfficial keeper of my time.
Mark Bosnich@TheRealBozza

30 years ago today @AVFCOfficial won the @Carabao_Cup 3-0 at @wembstadium….seems like yesterday… thank you to all my wonderful teammates, the manager and the staff, the club & administrators and especially the fans for a memorable day..miss you all(especially you Jim Walker)…xmb @premierleague

A bit late to the farce of @ECB_cricket marking its own homework over the Ashes debacle. After a similar set of results & performances in '22, Ashley Giles, Chris Silverwood & Graham Thorpe were sacked & Joe Root resigned 2 months later. This now looks just a cosy club.

Not another international break in the football season! This campaign feels as if it’s not started yet. So we have to wait until the weekend of April 10th - 12th before the PL resumes. And the week before for the intriguing C’ship developments. Tough on club supporters.

@patmurphybbc 1970 Over 1982 Brazil team all day long. Jairzinho, Gerson, Tostao, Pele & Rivelino….wow! Clodoaldo was a mighty fine player as well.

Heartily agree. Their defensive fallibility meant they set out to score more goals than the opposition. Simple, really. What a forward line!
Hendondave@Hendondave

@NormanGiller @patmurphybbc @lecrin Totally agree. The Brazil 1970 squad may not have been great defensively, but they were majestic in possession. Forget Tica-Taca, so beloved of modern coaches, and watch the whole move for the 4th goal of the 1970 Final. I’ve always thought team goals are prettier than solo ones.
