I had GERD, bad, it was scary. I'm regular, and in control during bowel movements, once a day. I'm learning to trust my body more and more after decades of ridiculous nutritional habits, even when I was seriously lifting. When I was lifting, using a spreadsheet, the works, I simply was not eating enough fat, good animal fat, and it lead to a serious injury, which is recovering better than ever before.

Can we talk about gut health for a second? Because nobody talks about this enough. When I started carnivore I had GERD, what I now believe was undiagnosed SIBO, gallstones, gallbladder sludge, along with depression and anxiety. My gut was a disaster. I was bloated, in pain, and miserable on a regular basis. I have been through every version of digestive chaos on this journey. Constipation so bad I had to do enemas. Diarrhea for a week straight. Gallbladder attacks that felt like a heart attack coming through my chest and into my back. Everything in between. Here is what I want people who are struggling in the beginning to hear: that chaos is your gut reorganizing itself. Your bile production, your gallbladder, your liver, your entire digestive system is learning how to work differently. That takes time. The irregularity is not a sign that carnivore is hurting you. It is a sign that something is changing. When I was plant based I pooped constantly. Multiple times a day. It was never solid. I had so much fiber I thought that meant my gut was healthy. It was not. It was inflamed and overwhelmed and completely out of balance. Now? I go once a day. Almost the same time every day. Small amount. Done. No cramping, no urgency, no pain. My GERD has been quiet for months. The gallbladder attacks have been quiet for months. My gut is regulated for what feels like the first time in my adult life. Steak and Butter Gal goes once a week. I go every day. Both of us are carnivore. Both of us are fine. Your normal is your normal and it may not look like anyone else's. There is also real science behind the gut-brain connection and I believe it with my whole chest. The shift in my anxiety and depression since my gut healed has been significant. These things are not separate. Talk to your people about this stuff. There is no shame in it. We all poop. The question is whether what is happening in there is actually working the way it should. For me, finally, it is.
