This #WorldHealthWorkersWeek, we honor frontline teams delivering essential maternal, newborn, & family planning services. Through #EMPOWERUG, 672 health workers have been trained to deliver quality care, strengthening services and improving outcomes for #mothers and #babies.

Reflecting on the first 2 quarters of #EMPOWERUG, early results are already showing great impact; - 478,303 CYPs delivered - 355 Maternal deaths averted - 52,423 Unsafe abortions averted - 230,186 Unintended pregnancies averted Behind every number is a life that has changed.

Key recommendations from today's review of #EMPOWERUG and WISH P&S: strengthen implementation of high impact practices for FP/MNCH, consistent commodity availability,strengthen district engagement, & expand strategies to better reach adolescents, men & underserved communities.

At Kikyekye HC III, we met the Village Health Teams implementing #EMPOWERUG's House Hold Model to tackle harmful practices. A key highlight was the facility's use of data to deliver tailored messages, that improved uptake of immediate post delivery family planning services.

On day 3 of our visit, we kicked off at Mbarara RRH with the Urogynae team,diving into fistula prevention,repair and patient reintegration into the community. The team stressed the urgent need to institutionalise fistula repair services in the public sector. @UKinUganda

We ended the day at a dialogue in Nakivale settlement, where open discussions on family planning, created a space for health workers and VHTs to demisfy misconceptions, and provide accurate information for informed choices. @UKinUganda @Ritahwadds #EMPOWERUG

On day 2 of our visit, we met the Isingiro District Health Team.They shared how the #EMPOWERUG programme is strengthening maternal health by enhancing health worker capacity,ensuring commodity availability and expanding services to the last mile. @UKinUganda @Ritahwadds

Our first stop was at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital,where we toured the #NICU upgraded with equipment donated by the UK Government through the #EMPOWERUg programme. This investment will strengthen #newborn care and improve survival of small and sick newborns.@UKinUganda
