📜 Tiny bit of history Invented in the 1880s by Friedrich Ziehl (a bacteriologist ) and Franz Neelsen (a pathologist). One provided the dye, the other added the heat and together they created one of the most iconic stains in pathology 🔥🎨

🔬 Stain of the Week: Ziehl–Neelsen AKA: The “Tuberculosis Detective” stain 🕵️‍♂️ 🟥 What it stains: Acid-fast bacilli turn **bright red**, while the background goes blue like tiny red chili peppers in a blue soup 🌶️🫐

Although primarily intended as part of the training for new Medical Examiners, the e-learning modules contain information that trainees preparing for the CHAT exam might find useful, such as when to refer a case to the coroner and how to complete a death certificate.

The next meeting of the Trainees' Advisory Committee will be held on Wednesday, 19 November 2025. We will have the opportunity at this meeting to raise your examination, training issues or concerns with the Royal College of Pathologists’ Honorary Officers.

Successful applicants will be expected to attend four Trainees’ Advisory Committee meetings each year and two Specialty Advisory Committee meetings, providing updates on behalf of their specialty. Applications must be submitted using the nomination form by 5pm on Friday 10 Octobe
