In honor of National Donate Life Month this April, we’re hosting our next roundtable discussion: “Perspectives on the Gift of Life.” This conversation will feature guest speakers Colleen Brand, Volunteer Coordinator in Public Affairs, and Talia Giordano, Director of Family Services at Howie’s House—both from Gift of Life. They’ll share how Gift of Life works in communities to educate the public about organ and tissue donation, increase donor designation rates, and provide supportive programs and services that help educate and support the transplant community. Meet Quiana Bishop, teacher, advocate, and President of the DPC Board of Directors. 💙 Quiana’s experience reflects a challenge many dialysis patients face. One of the most common reasons patients lose eligibility for a #kidneytransplant is due to calcification in the arteries, which can occur when phosphorus levels are too high. Managing #phosphorus is critical for people on dialysis. When traditional treatments stop working, or patients can’t access newer options, it can put their health and even their chance at a #transplant at risk. New therapies are being developed to help patients better control phosphorus and protect their long-term health. But without changes to our current system, there’s no guarantee #dialysispatients will have timely access to these innovations. Join Quiana and kidney advocates across the country in urging Congress to enact policies that encourage continued innovation and help ensure patients can access the treatments they need as new options become available.
