The Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit will adopt a multi-agency framework, ensuring effective coordination and seamless enforcement. This afternoon, I convened the technical committee spearheading the formation and operationalization of the unit, which briefed me on the proposed structure, command framework, and rollout strategy. The Unit, which is anchored on the cooperation agreement between the National Government and the Nairobi City County Government, will be operational by the 1st of May. The Unit will ensure a more responsive, efficient, and accountable policing system within the metropolitan area, enhancing safety and security for all residents, visitors and investors. We were with the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, DIG (KPS) Eliud Lagat, DIG (APS) Gilbert Masengeli, the Director, Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Mohamed Amin, and Principal Administrative Secretaries Beverly Opwora and Jacob Narengo. Also present were Musa Machooka, the Secretary, Government Programmes and Projects Delivery in the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Eva Wairiuko, the Chief Officer, Security and Compliance, at the Nairobi City County Government, among other senior Government officials.
