@AMcGown And let’s not overlook that Carole Ann Ford is most insistent that Susan should not be classified as a companion. 😉

@PatrickMulkern It's a very good point - to a child it must have felt like it went on forever. I don't wonder if Kingdom's resurrection for The Dalek Outer Space Book at Xmas 1966 didn't add to her canonical status at the time?

A random #DoctorWho thought re: the Master Plan finds ... as wonderful as it will be to see 2 episodes more of Katarina, might the recoveries finally spell the end of her inclusion as a canonical companion? IMHO it all dates back to J Bentham's DWAS's The Companion Volume in 1977

@AMcGown Jan explained to me yesterday that whole story ran for what felt to a child like the equivalent of two summer holidays. Sara Kingdom in particular seemed like she was in the show for a long time and travelled to many different destinations with the Doctor. More than Dodo in fact.

@PatrickMulkern Maybe they were essentially Schroedinger's Companions ... you were meant to *think* they would be companions but then you'd get pulled up short. They were only companions ... until they weren't. My, this has gotten existential ...

@PatrickMulkern Ha-ha, yes very interesting but is it companions, small 'c' or Companions, big 'c'??? I notice that Bret Vyon and Sara Kingdom are mentioned as "such characters" ... Fans like lists, and I can imagine that the DWAS Exec and JJB would want to set out a reliable taxonomy back then

Exciting news for all #DoctorWho fans. Unseen in 61 years. Not just Daleks, Hartnell & Purves but more Douglas Camfield & Terry Nation, Nick Courtney's DW debut and two more eps with Adrienne Hill as short-lived Katarina. Here's @RadioTimes coverage from 1965👏👏@filmisfabulous

@filmisfabulous Fabulous. This was the third BBC radio version. There had been a 15-part Book at Bedtime reading in 1953; and a six-part dramatisation in 1957. Here are the first billing and a mini feature for the 1968 Radio 4 serial. @RadioTimes

The Day of the Triffids A number of films have been donated by a former BBC employee. With these were reel-to-reel recordings made in August 68 of ‘The Day of the Triffids’, which had been broadcast on Radio 4 FM in June and July that year. These copies are of very high quality.
