Don't let anyone gaslight you into believing that people who 'manage' land in this way for grouse shooting are any sort of custodian. As Scotland's first recorded historical figure reputedly said about the Roman empire: 'They create a desert and call it a peace.'

🆘 620,000 birds trapped & killed in Cyprus last autumn. Trapping levels rose 76% in the Republic of Cyprus, but dropped 22% in the British Bases due to strict enforcement. Action is needed NOW in the Republic to stop this mass killing. 📌 Read more: bit.ly/3Ddt0B1

Someone sent me this photo of Ben Nevis, taken today. In the picture are several hills taller than 1000 metres. You’d be forgiven for thinking that this was taken in June, such is the lack of snow.

Spain is allowing industrial agriculture to wreck one of Europe’s greatest natural wonders, the Doñana marshes. How can this be happening in 2024. Please @Teresaribera stop these vandals 🙏
BirdLife Europe & Central Asia@BirdLifeEurope

🦆 Waterfowl don’t feel at home in Doñana anymore ☹ New research by @ebdonana revealed that 9 out of 15 analysed waterfowl species have declined over the last 40 years in the Doñana National Park. This is due to the loss of flooded areas in the marshes of the park. Data shows that human activity and climate change have drastically altered this wetland, which is one of the most important wintering hot spots for migratory birds. Artificially flooded ecosystems, such as rice fields, or salt marshes cannot offset the negative effects of the degradation. When Doñana suffers, it is not just a regional issue but affects birds across Europe. This is a reminder that we need to preserve this wetland before the damage becomes irreversible. #DoñanaSeExtingue

No. What happens in Doñana DOES NOT STAY in Doñana. After more than two years of work, we’ve published an article demonstrating that the poor condition of Doñana negatively affects waterbirds across the ENTIRE continent! Thread below! 🧵 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/gc…

Illegal Hunting in Protected Bird Sanctuaries Over the past week, BirdLife Malta exposed illegal hunting in the protected bird sanctuaries of Buskett and Comino Video evidence led to hunters being caught and facing prosecution These incidents show the urgent need for stronger enforcement to protect these safe zones for migratory and nesting birds. While some action has been taken, more resources and monitoring are essential to truly safeguard our wildlife. @MaltaGov
