It’s no secret that James Ortiz, Rocky’s puppeteer and voice performer, also has a tiny on-screen role in Project Hail Mary as the NASA reporter covering the ArcLight mission.
But do you know the in-universe explanation, recently confirmed by Phil Lord himself?
The reporter’s voice ended up in Grace’s computer because he had once worked as a voice donor for the company behind the speech synthesis software.
So yes, Rocky is technically speaking with the voice of the NASA reporter.
