@anon_opin If only there was a way of explaining this using supply and demand....

@MhairiHunter I too feel sorry for them. But it doesn't mean that price co trolls are right. A level economics.

We're all looking at the bill for our weekly shop & going Jeezo. Even cutting back on non-essentials it's eyewatering. I feel sorry for folk trying to feed a family & pay sky high energy bills & all the rest of it. It's tough going, let's help! #VoteSNP

The retirement plan for an entire generation was 'my house will fund it.' Downsize, release equity, live off the difference. But that only works if the next generation can afford to buy at the prices you need to sell at. They can't. And that gap is going to define the next decade of British politics.

Every measure you list involves spending wealth.
You don’t list one measure that creates wealth.
And if you don’t create wealth you will soon run out of it to spend, which is already happening (hence all your extra taxes and borrowing).

I find it a perpetual source of fascination that we have scientists, mathematicians, engineers and entrepreneurs literally reaching for the stars - using the sheer force of their brainpower to bend the universe to their will - creating space rockets and AI models. And at the same time we have a ministerial and bureaucratic class that are perhaps the lowest calibre of any time in history. In terms of raw talent, ability and brains, in the main they seem of just stunning mediocrity

Publicly traded companies in Britain must have, or “explain to the regulator” why they do not have:
- A minimum of 40% women on their board of directors
- A woman CEO, chairman of the board, CFO and/or Senior Independent Director
- A board member who is an ethnic minority
Why is anybody confused about why so few companies want to list here and so few promising startups scale up here?
Would you agree to put people in charge of your company on the basis of their sex or race in order to meet a diversity quota?
These rules were brought in by the Conservative Party in 2022, BTW.

UK electricity generation has fallen 25% from its peak in 2004. Per capita electricity consumption is a third the level of the United States. The UK has the most costly electricity in the world. Half the gas we consume comes from the Norwegian side of the North Sea basin. The residual imported LNG has 4x the carbon footprint of supplying our own. And most depressingly of all the result is a deteriorating UK Balance of Payments, a weaker pound, and a bigger hit to the cost of living. And still the useful idiots want to further constrain UK energy production through high taxes, banning new licences, and gold-plating new energy infrastructure. Their luxury beliefs are behind the awful household disposable income growth of recent years. 🤡.

Every time my car whacks in to one I thank the SEND legislation that forces councils to spend an ever increasing proportion of my council tax providing private taxis to school for kids with mild anxiety, instead of fixing our potholes.

"Shit! People have started to realise that renewables are actually expensive!"
"How did they figure it out?"
"They're seeing it in their energy bills."
"DAMNIT that's why I hate pricing mechanisms. They reveal too much."
"What can we do?"
"Hide costs in general taxation, then lump it on high earners like everything else. it works really well with healthcare."
"Genius!"

The Government should prioritise bringing down energy bills by moving more of the cost of government policy into general taxation. Read Unsung Britain now ⤵️ buff.ly/7WcqrbQ

@egi_nupe People who make over $500k/year have almost half the divorce rate of those who make under $50k/year.
People don't like to talk about that part.

@thetimmorgan Unfortunately I do not have the aptitude to access one of the top feelings in the world. Can you give me the top 5 list so I can work out if I am excluded from any others?
English

@PaulFish Amongst the top feelings in the world is conversing with someone in their language. But like all worthwhile things its hard and requires practise.
