First draft of this (biomechanics) tour de force completed! Time for some cookies (to go with the caffeine and kilos😅).

Colorado paid the other guy $11m to leave because he won 3, 2 and 3 conference games respectively in the previous 3 years. Broke the bank to sign a new HC and brought in 80 transfer players... To win 1 conference game. The mental gymnastics of college athletics is wild.

This assumption isnt in the formation of OLS but during comparisons. Two separate models:compact (c) model (y = b0) and an augmented (a) model (y = b0 + b1x1).If 'a' is a superior predictor to 'c', the average residual is smaller. This is evaluated by parametric testing (p-value).
Solomon Kurz@SolomonKurz

When using OLS regression, from where do we get the assumption the residuals are normally distributed? You don't need that assumption to minimize the sum of the squared residuals, nor to use the CLT to compute the SE's for the beta coefficients. So what's its origins?

Had a great time presenting at the USOPC data summit 2023 and sharing the initiatives and ideas we have at @usspeedskating in creating a data-informed culture among our organization. This event has turned into my favorite each year and I can't wait for the next time!

👀Where to start???? Maybe taking a guess how long before one of their athletes dies from some lethal combination? Enhanced Games, Olympics-style event with no drug testing for athletes, set to launch in December 2024 - CBSSports.com cbssports.com/olympics/news/…

Question for all you sprint modelers out there: Is a time correction parameter appropriate if the values produced aren't reflective of muscle activation? Has anyone looked into this? Would a standard constant be better? #sprint #sportscience

A study by Kroshus and colleagues found that less than 2 percent of high school athletes receive a scholarship. Parents don't understand that the probabilities are not in their favor when they use scholarship as their primary investment reason.

I know families spending $5,000+ per year for their kid to play “elite” travel soccer/baseball. The goal is a college scholarship. Ten years of this is $50,000. What are the chances they’ll net $50,000 in scholarships? Slim to none? Why do people do this?

I was working a girls soccer camp as a student AT and, when speaking to a father about her daughter's injury, asks "is she any good? Should I keep investing in this? Be honest."

Have any other scientists been using a text-AI for literature review? I've been using scite and I've been pretty happy with it so far. I would enjoy hearing what else is out there. What are you using?

Thoughts: Asymmetry has been previously shown to be task-dependent in healthy athletes, which remains true for cycling. The relationship between knee joint asymmetry during cycling and PF - SLCMJ may be influenced by an outlier, but the relationship with CI is convincing.

Meanwhile, ACLR athletes presented significant relationships between asymmetry in joint-specific cycling power at the knee and asymmetry in force-related measures during the SLCMJ and DLCMJ (r > .6).

Working on some manuscripts and wanted to share some figures: Associations between asymmetry during cycling trials and RTS tasks (y-balance; PP, PF, TV -SLCMJ; CI - DLCMJ) in healthy athletes. Relationships were mainly nonsignificant except 2 that were found to be low (r < .4).

Do we have a record of an organization being held liable for athletes injured during training while not supervised by a CSCS? We keep using the L word, but I have yet to see repercussions.

For instance, sometimes people look at graphs like this and assume that because stride length plateaus for an individual running at higher speeds, whereas frequency is increasing at higher speeds, that to run faster we need to increase stride frequency.

Maximize or optimize? When looking at how variables change with speed it is not always obvious which variables to target with training interventions.

Basketball Team Jump Mat data. Also had BAM Testing pre-season. I believe that progress is made if athletes are at/near pre-season baseline data at season end. Note: Blue= static jump, 90 deg (goniometer; testers did not vary), Orange=CMJ, Gray= 20kg bar on shldr, 90deg static.
