Jean Delon (1856-1926), Alain Delon' s grandfather. He was a tax collector but could had been a stage actor. Don't you agree? Beauty runs in the family.

Happy 79th birthday, Meiko Kaji! Meiko Kaji on why her character in "Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion" (1972) continues to intrigue the audience worldwide & the one condition she put forth before agreeing to the role: "I’ve never really thought about acting with my eyes. I mean, I try to act with my eyes! But with Sasori, I thought that the heroine didn’t need to speak. When I took on that role, I had one condition that I presented to the [director and producers], and that was to not have the hero say any words. When I first read the script, it had a lot of prison scenes and scenes where the protagonist goes through a lot of torture and so on. There were a lot of obscenities in the script, and when I read that, I thought, “This is meaningless, just shouting obscenities all the time.” So my important condition was that she wouldn’t say anything. This was the director’s [Shunya Ito] debut feature, and he thought it was inconceivable for the heroine not to say anything. But, for me, this was a condition that I had to stand by. There was so much meaning in not speaking in this drama, so if [my idea] didn’t go through, I didn’t want to do it. So I told them that I was resolved in my decision, and I wanted the producer to stand by me, and the director as well. They asked if I could give them time, so I said I’d give them as much as they wanted. About a week later, they got back to me and they finally agreed. (...) I’m confident that the reason the world continues to be so intrigued by Sasori is because of my decision not to have dialogue. It was so impactful. It really shows the pride and the dignity of the character; her silence really communicates that. She’s always watching. Not only that, but when I think about it—having dialogue in a film—how easy it is in comparison to being silent!" (Meiko Kaji's interview with Katie Rife, Letterboxd, 2025)
