College Soccer Truth ™
College Soccer Truth ™@ImCollegeSoccer·
NCAA confirms a vote on the 5-year, age based eligibility policy on June 22nd. Uncommitted and Committed Recruits, you should be concerned‼️🚨 Here’s the Truth! -It will pass! -There WILL be schools cutting committed 2027’s and you won’t know it until you get close to signing day on November when they tell you you’re no longer needed. -Uncommitted 2027’s, there are coaches right now that would have given you chance at a D1, but they are waiting on this rule to pass so they can figure out if they need to recruit you or ask their senior to come back for their 5th year. -2028’s, the fact that the date to vote on it got pushed back to June 22nd is significant. You’re going to see more schools be hesitant on offering you on June 15th until they know the guidelines of the new rule. -2028’s, there will be LESS D1 Power 4 and D1 roster spots in general for you to make. -College coaches will look to retain more seniors with experience over true freshman. -The transfer portal will be packed with 5th year kids and college coaches will run there for players -Making a college roster spot at every level will be difficult since we expect D2 to apply the same rule. This will eliminate a lot of kids from college soccer. Lastly and probably the hardest truth to hear, if you’re a committed 2027’s, your coach will more than likely tell you you’re fine, not to worry, but they will know by late September if the senior is coming back and not tell you. #CSTruth

@CamLemons_ Well, I mean, congrats. As a fan, you don’t get any of the money and there’s no athletic success to speak of, so I’m not sure what’s in this for you…but congrats on whatever it is. Maybe the golf team is good?

@MegynKellyShow @megynkelly @PatrickMcEnroe Wow, great information. My daughter who just turned 10 has been playing tennis for 4 years and I had no idea about these challenges. Makes me second guess if she should continue if her dream to play in college are not very high. Sad.

@ClayTravis Indeed - At the recent NCAA championships, the 8 Quarterfinalist teams had only 9 American starters out of 48 possible starters (19%). As a conference, the SEC only has 11% of Americans as starters - 89% international.

I’m hearing from more and more people on this issue. It’s across all Olympic college sports. Foreign countries don’t let American stars dominate their pro leagues — they all have limits on American players — why do we not do same for our scholarships?

Should US colleges have a minimum number of US born athletes on their teams receiving scholarships? Legit debate we should have. Look at men’s tennis numbers below, nearly 90% foreign born.

Congrats to TCU, Texas, Wake Forest and Virginia on reaching the NCAA men’s tennis Final Four. By my count: 24 singles starters. 3 from the USA. It’s not about one school or one match. It’s about the overall numbers — and what they mean for the American college tennis pathway.

One thing getting lost in the current discussion on college athletics, a federal bill, etc. Universities exist to educate students. How does modern college athletics serve that goal/mission? That’s the real discussion that needs to happen among and within universities.

@College10sRanks @yuval59 Or could simply make the rule that while the player is taking advantage of the (gracious) military exception player is not permitted to play in professional leagues or tournaments.

Possibly, I’m just pointing out that many countries have a professional athlete division of their military. You still go thru some basic training and then get accepted into the athlete program. They’d have to write all kinds of rules around what would disqualify that military service as counting in order to do so

Following Yam Madar’s commitment to LSU (I don’t represent him and he’s a phenomenal player), a lot of people have been asking me about the military service and NCAA eligibility. I don’t know the exact details or dates regarding Yam Madar’s military service specifically, but the general rule is what matters here. Military service in Israel is mandatory, which is why Israeli players (and some others) receive the military exception. The eligibility clock starts from the moment they are discharged from the army - not from high school graduation. Under the current rules (4 years to play), players discharged in 2023 should still have 1 year of eligibility left for 2026-27 (played seasons 23-24, 24-25, 25-26) If the proposed “5-for-5” rule passes, players discharged in 2022 could also remain eligible.

If ncaa allows an exception for military service, fine but it can be rebutted if the player plays a full season of professional basketball or in the case of tennis a guy plays 25 tournaments in Monastir and Sharm El Shiekh. 5 For 5 legislation doesn’t allow for federation exemption, hopefully.

Many countries have programs for athletes while in the military. So now you’re getting into judging what you want to call military service. No different than judging federation exemptions. Don’t think the NCAA is going to get into that. If you get the official verification from the country they’re going to accept it.

The @NCAATennis DI Team Finals are being replayed on ESPU right now. First up: Texas A&M vs. Auburn (W). 9pm EST: Virginia vs. Texas (M). If you haven’t watched yet, please tune in. Viewership ratings for these replays will be a key indicator in whether college tennis will be aired live on linear tv in the future.
