A new article on Yahoo! Japan highlighting the 3 best Korean dramas to watch this spring praises #StillShining.
Has everyone watched this yet? It goes way beyond just being “emotional”, it’s so pure it makes your heart ache, and I was already tearing up from episode one. It’s that good… Honestly, by episode two it already feels like it could be a masterpiece. Since it’s directed by the same person as Our Beloved Summer, the visuals are like watercolor paintings, and the delicate way emotions are portrayed really pulls you in.
The story follows Yong Tae-so (Park Jinyoung), a young man who lost his parents in an accident and lives a practical life while taking care of his younger brother who was left with a disability, and Mo Eun-a (Kim Minju), who stays bright and positive despite having a father struggling with depression. During summer break, the two start studying together in an empty countryside high school library. As they spend time together, studying, talking about their dreams and worries, they slowly fall into a gentle, innocent love.
It captures all those small, exciting moments so beautifully: their first little trip together, sneaking into her house at night, impulsively jumping on a train just because they miss each other… It’s youthful, sweet, and a little bittersweet—the kind of story that makes you remember “those days.”
Then the story shifts into their adult lives, and of course it starts getting more heartbreaking. But even just these first two episodes are enough to make your heart flutter and ache at the same time. It kind of gives off Twenty-Five Twenty-One vibes, and drama fans are already emotionally invested.
Jinyoung has been playing a lot of “model student” roles lately, so I thought this might feel similar, but I take that back. He’s dangerously charming here. He fully embodies that “first love memory manipulator guy” energy—the kind of guy who makes you feel like you must have had a crush on someone like him back in school. He’s so perfect it actually makes me mad that he wasn’t my first love (lol).
He’s smart, kind, grounded, and still has that subtle charm, basically an unbeatable character. That last train scene in episode one? My heart literally clenched, I’ve already rewatched it three times. Seriously… brace yourselves.
And the female lead is amazing too. She’s bright, positive, and has this slightly bold, forward charm. Minju, formerly of IZ*ONE, really feels like the embodiment of a “first love” her pure, radiant smile is just so endearing.
Even though Tae-so and Eun-a are both dealing with heavy family burdens at such a young age, and their youth isn’t exactly bright or carefree, when they’re together, they shine. It’s not a story with big dramatic events, but rather a quiet one that gradually builds emotions and completely immerses you in its world. And the OST? Absolutely incredible. Honestly, turn off your phone, blast the volume, and just let yourself sink into it for an hour.
