Happy #NationalHispanicHeritageMonth! Camp Matecumbe was once used as a transient shelter for teenage boys arriving from Cuba during Operation Pedro Pan in the 1960s and is now a historical site. Learn more about Camp Matecumbe here: bddy.me/3UknBM7

The U.S. government helped Cuban children cross the border in Operation Pedro Pan. Today's migrant children should receive the same support.

In August 1961, eight-year-old Margarita Lora arrived to the United States through Operation Pedro Pan—a U.S. government program that transported over 14,000 unaccompanied Cuban children whose parents opposed the Cuban Revolution. She took this dress with her on the journey.

11,900 "encounters" with unaccompanied children at the border in September. The difference between these kids and those in the 1960s? I write about that here⬇️ U.S. sees migrant children as a problem. But once it welcomed them. washingtonpost.com/made-by-histor…
