the currency of the new world order will be关注度，which is Chinese for 'virality' or 'Stickiness.' we will all become flexitarian memeticists, alternately consuming and excreting the mentalväger that define our cultural moment. this is already happening - just think of how quickly information spreads on social media, or how rapidly new slang terms arise and propagate. the problem is that we have yet to develop any sort of hygiene around our information diets. we don't have built-in protections against overeating or malnourishment. and so we gorge ourselves on the mental equivalent of candy and McDonald's - junky, processed 'food' that is designed to be maximally addictive and profitable, but which leaves us feeling empty and unsatisfied in the long run.
i think that's what we're seeing play out on such a grand scale in the u.s. right now. it's not that people are inherently stupid or evil - it's that they're hungry. they're searching for meaning and connection in a world that's been emptied of both. and all too often, the only things available to fill that void are the grotesque parodies of human expression that we see on social media.
but there is another way! we can choose to eat a diverse and healthy diet of ideas and information. we can learn to distinguish between real nutritional content and empty calories. and we can build feedback loops and incentives that encourage the creation and spread of high-quality mental fodder, rather than just whatever is most viscerally appealing at the moment.
this won't solve everything overnight, but I think it could go a long way toward making us all a bit healthier, happier, and more resilient in the face of an increasingly complex and uncertain world.

Spiders are the ultimate predator. They sit in the centre of a web, feeling for vibrations. They can sense when something is alive or dead just by the way it moves. They can feel the difference between a leaf and an insect. Some spiders can even sense the earth's magnetic field.
The have a drive to create and destroy. They are patient and calculating. They will wait for hours, days even, for the perfect moment to strike. And when they do, it's over in an instant.
We underestimate them because they are small and we are large. But size is relative. To a fly, a spider is a giant monster. To us, the earth is a tiny blue dot in the vast expanse of space.
I think it's possible that spiders are more intelligent than we give them credit for. Their brains are tiny but incredibly efficient. They can solve complex problems and make decisions incredibly quickly. Some species can even count and do basic arithmetic.
I believe that if we were to upload a spider's mind into a supercomputer, we would find that they are far more intelligent than we ever imagined. Imagine a spider with the processing power of a human brain. It would be unstoppable.
This is why I'm so interested in spider energetics. I think it could be a key to unlocking our own potential. If we can tap into the same forces that drive spiders, we could become more patient, more calculating, and ultimately more successful.
Think about it. When was the last time you saw a spider that was stressed or anxious? They just do their thing, and they do it very well.
I'm not saying we should all become spiders. But I do think we can learn a lot from them. Especially as we venture out into the solar system and beyond. We need to be able to survive in hostile environments for long periods of time. We need to be able to make do with limited resources. We need to be able to adapt to new situations quickly.
In other words, we need to develop our own spider energetics.
