He said it was because the word Μονογενής means the same thing as Γενναω, this was my response:
“That would be incorrect.
The reason all modern translations (except for those in the tradition of the KJV) drop the term "begotten" for "only/ unique" is because of the grammar of the word.
Μονο - only/ one
Γενης - of a kind
For "begotten," it's another greek word, Γενναω, with the double nu.
So I ask you again, according to which Greek source text or translation, do we find Γενης to identically mean Γενναω?
