@People4Portland

Politicians at all levels of government are doing too little, too slowly, to rescue our broken city. Let's take action and save the city we love.

Check out our final interview. Thank you to the thousands of you who took action to change the politics and direction of the city. Now, it’s in voters hands to choose new pragmatic leaders for our city and county. koin.com/nwpolitics/peo…

In 3 years, YOUR grassroots voices changed the debate and direction city politics: ✔️Hire 300 more police - yes ✔️Ban public camping - yes ✔️Create more safe shelters - yes ✔️Re-criminalize hard drugs - yes ✔️Hold DA Schmidt accountable - yes ✔️Clean up the “damn trash” - yes Now, the future of Portland is in the hands of voters to select pragmatic new leaders. Choose wisely. kgw.com/article/news/l…

YOU changed the debate and political direction of the city. But we didn’t fix Portland’s biggest problems. The future is now in the hands of voters to choose new pragmatic leaders to put accountability over ideology into action. Thank you to everyone who took action to spur politicians to rescue our broken city. bizjournals.com/portland/news/…

ACCOMPLISHED: ☑️ Activated grassroots majority fed up with lawlessness, disorder and city/county inaction. ☑️ Ended defund police debate; put need for 300+ cops back on city hall agenda. ☑️ Put spotlight on failed policies of DA Mike Schmidt (aka Schmidt Show). ☑️ First and loudest to push for citywide ban on public camping. ☑️ Pushed hard to re-criminalize hard drugs, ban public drug use. ☑️ Called out corruption and drove scrutiny of homeless industrial complex. oregonlive.com/politics/2024/…

Portland has 350-400 too few police officers for a city our size. Fixing this problem must be a priority of city and state elected officials for years to come. This can only be accomplished with an effective and improved state agency that oversees training and certification of new officers. oregoncapitalchronicle.com/2024/09/19/two…

Cities and the county need similar bans to deter public camping. This is a big change from just a couple years ago when local politicians refused to implement reasonable bans. YOU have made your voices heard. oregonlive.com/politics/2024/…

It’s remarkable that AFTER more than ONE BILLION has been spent over several years and homelessness and community impacts are WORSE, elected officials decided it was time to coordinate. The goal should not be “spending the money;” it should be reducing the number of unsheltered people, ending public camping, and improving community safety. oregonlive.com/politics/2024/…

This is great news for Portland – congratulations! Along with the celebrations, city and county politicians must also redouble efforts to improve safety around the Moda Center and Veterans Memorial Coliseum and MAX that serves the area. For too long, homeless camps, open air drug dealing, and nearby shootings have impacted this neighborhood. bit.ly/3XQCDNJ

No surprise. This cultural reality makes revitalizing a centralized downtown more difficult. Daily workers make downtown safer and more economically vibrant. More cultural and entertainment options are key, but what other ideas will help bring back downtown? oregonlive.com/business/2024/…

Another stupid, unnecessary, and ideologically- fueled proposal. The tax version of BM 110 brought to Oregon by out-of-state, out-of-touch elites. wweek.com/news/state/202…

Indexing this tax is a not complicated should not require years of study. It is a matter of fairness, particularly for during a time of higher inflation. Multnomah County Chair @jvegapederson is driving Multnomah County further and further into the ditch with a rising cost of living and declining quality of life. No wonder people are leaving. wweek.com/news/2024/09/0…

For many years, the homeless industrial complex has argued that homeless camps are merely a “visual nuisance” and not a serious threat to public safety or health. Portland needs to step up enforcement of its camping ban. kgw.com/article/news/l…

This is news from January, but Portland’s lack of adequate police remains a HUGE problem. Portland needs a 350-400 (net) increase in officers for a city our size. Are any candidates for office talking about this? They should be. wweek.com/news/city/2024…

Multnomah County Commissioners have starved public safety for many years. Cutting funding for jail beds, sheriff patrols and personnel. Good for the sheriff for finally telling voters and commissioners the truth. wweek.com/news/2024/09/0…

The disaster of Measure 110 will take years to fix. But Oregon’s new law is a step in the right direction, assuming local officials have the competence and will to implement it properly. koin.com/news/portland/…

"Portland police conducted a downtown drug mission on the first day that possession of small amounts of hard drugs once again became illegal, resulting in four arrests, one citation, and two people accepting service under the new deflection policy. According to the Portland Police Bureau, the Central Precinct Bike Squad conducted the mission on Sunday, Sept. 1. It coincided with the reinstatement of criminal penalties for possession of small amounts of drugs such as fentanyl, heroin, and methamphetamine." portlandtribune.com/news/portland-…

“This is a dramatic statement and decision by the Banks’ leadership on their view of the state of Portland. One of the City’s largest businesses decamping to the suburbs is just another wake-up call to our elected leaders that something more must be done – we hope this is that wake-up call that spurs real action.” bizjournals.com/portland/news/…
