I am so glad this is gaining traction because I've been saying this forever. If you CAN'T get your comms done in a timely manner, DO NOT TAKE COMMS! You're not only making your comms look bad, but you're wasting my time and my money. Fuck you. Do better. There's no excuse.

I've been commissioning people for years man and a large majority of artists just fucking suck. It's why I find myself commissioning the same two now adays because every other artist has failed to deliver in a timely manner.

I completely understand when life stuff comes up, but AT LEAST communicate that to me! It is YOUR JOB as an artist to effectively communicate with your client. Don't use my good graces and keep coming up with excuses everytime I ask for an update either.

If you are TAKING people's money upfront and just keep taking more commissions and your excuse is "ohhhhh it's too hard there's so many people" you did that to yourself you dumbass. It's called time management something that I realize is a rarity in artists nowadays.

I understand being an artist is hard sometimes and clients can be just as bad as artists but I personally feel that artists should be held to a higher standard. If it's a business and you want continued support, DO YOUR COMMS!!! It's not fucking hard.

I've dealt with so many commissioners, some of which are pretty chill, get the art done in a decent timeframe and are overall awesome people. But the LARGE MAJORITY of artists I've noticed as of late just don't do their comms and keep taking more on????

Personally I think waiting over 1 month without an update is ridiculous. I'm seeing posts like this pop up all too frequently and furry artists who do this to their clients really need to step it up, or just take a hiatus from commissions until they are ready to be professionally productive. I follow a 2:2:2 schedule - two weeks to give all clients in queue a sketch. two weeks after sketch delivery for another update (clean up, base colors...etc), and 2 weeks after that last update to finish. Most clients get their fully finished artwork in 6 weeks or less, some larger scale pictures/comics take longer but I make sure my clients know this. I recommend this pacing for almost every artist out there. It gives plenty of time to make a bespoke piece for a client, respond to their feedback and not burn out with over-work. The important thing is to communicate with your clients and maintain a professional reputation throughout your business with them and that means deliver on your end of the bargain. The last thing we want to do is damage the implicit trust that furry artists have with our clients. Once that's happened enough times, it's extremely difficult to rebuild that trust.

Why can't the people I commission just do the fucking art I'm so sick of waiting months and months and months for commissions. It's Infuriating as much as it is disappointing because some of them I looked forward to commissioning again but after this wait, NEVER again
