I worked at a store that was BIG. Part Blockbuster, part Barnes & Noble, part FYE/GameStop, part Starbucks.
We'd have one person on the sales floor, one person on the register and one in the cafe during the day. MAYBE one person in the back room.

the biggest enshittification that ive seen post-2020 is every customer-facing job running off a skeleton crew cause every company realized that they can *technically* survive off of it and increase their profits in the process

This is an ink page from the upcoming #Jubilee, releasing on May 6th.This scene is based on a real location in Hong Kong. The comic features a wide range of settings, and I’ve hidden plenty of fun little Easter eggs and details throughout the whole work.

If young males get their knowledge or storytelling from audio or video, that may fit their lifestyle better
Put all the books for them in the shop and you'll have only dusty books to credit back to the publisher

I worked in a book store for a decade through more than one shift in reading/purchasing patterns.
It was mostly women in there through that time. If they buy books more, that group is served more. That's the business.

Fewer than half of US adults read a book last year.
Even fewer read an actual novel, and the trend is looking worse still for teenagers.
Why is nobody talking about this??
