@insidehousing Going in right direction to pause or completely stop the 'mania' for very High Rise towers. A better alternative and at much less cost all-round is to build 'gentile density' no more than 5 to 6 storey. Along with beautiful and inspiring designs.

@mtpennycook Problem is that although maybe well intentioned this move in Policy will do very little to do what is really required. Which is to build just Social Rented Housing ONLY under Local Councils, Charities, Communities & Land Trusts and the like.

Mixed tenure developments create diverse communities and support faster rates of build out. That’s why we’re backing mixed tenure sites through national planning policy, support for partnership models and record investment in social and affordable housing.

@RossLydall Even if it became a "Toll Bridge" as just for walking & cycling it would not be enough income to be sustainable. Common sense has prevailed.

@peterproperty Dystopian future though. Many high rise high density are laying empty as the 'target market' evaporates and younger people leave the City for better elsewhere.

Mail: “The latest proposals almost double the previously granted allocation of 10,800 new homes across the 443-acre site.” Stack ‘em in! It’s the numbers that matter, not those who have to live in the place. dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…

I wanted to stay in central London when moving from my first flat last year. I couldn’t because almost all of the flats available were leasehold & no matter how lovely a flat was, how desirable the area, how convenient it would have been to get to work, I would not do leasehold again. Until leasehold is ended, entirely, people will never view flats as a long term option. That is the reality.
Philip Oldfield@SustainableTall

London has built lots of flats…but few people want to buy them Since 2014, some 20,000 flats have been completed in Wandsworth. But nearly 40% of modern flats there have sold at a loss in the last 5 years archive.is/A3rfy

The city centre car park has had its day. There is now a significant opportunity to put the land previously used for car parking to much more productive use. Land that could be used for tens of thousands of homes in city centres. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@SustainableTall Ugly "box crates" design and repeated again and again. Of course little or no greenery or relief from the dullness of the built environment,

@DemolitionsLdn Agreed. The Cycling lobby has captured the agenda on "road use". Along with the Mayors greed for income from any form of transport.

@TheMurkyDepths Public sector should buy back ex-public land at a much reduced rate or compulsory purchase. Giving charities, land trusts and others to work with local Councils to design and build the new homes and refurbish where possible.

Public-private partnerships have a record of failing across London on public land since the 90s With current economic issues and prospect of rising inflation and interest rates, will the private part of partnerships down tools again? Let the public sector build on public land
Tom Copley@tomcopley

Good to join the panel discussion on public-private partnerships at @MIPIMWorld. City Hall, @oldoakparkroyal @LondonLegacy @placesforlondon are all delivering homes through partnerships. The @MayorofLondon’s new City Hall Developer Investment Fund will help us do even more.

@TheMurkyDepths A new approach with Charities, Land Trusts and the like working with Local Councils. To directly build the new homes that people really need to a very high build and environmental standards. Funded by Government. The private sector has "over-proved" it can never do this.

Latest reason private sector won't build homes will be rising interest rates and mortgages. Until gov allows public bodies to build big planning reform isn't going to cut it. Counter cyclical support for construction industry until private sector improves. Govt won't do it

They are bus stop “shelters” and not one modern design shelters travellers from the wind or rain - even the seats get wet - yet more style (debatable) over substance in our dystopian transport world
Will Norman@willnorman

London's bus stops haven't been re-designed for over 20yrs. We're rolling out some new designs with features including: 🪑seating for people to stop & rest 💡improved lighting helping safety concerns ➡️signage to help wayfinding
