For #IWD2026 we are celebrating remarkable women associated with Richmond Park. Joan Carlile (1606-79) was among the first English women to be a professional painter, painted this first known landscape of Richmond Park (image credit Lamport Hall), 1649-50. She lived in Petersham.

Friday Nature Notes from Richmond Park: what are the 1 billion of, living in 400,000 homes in the Park, some of which are over 200 years old? The answer is the Yellow Meadow Ants, inhabiting these mounds spread over the Park’s acid grassland - these ancient ones near Pen Ponds.
