It’s not at all surprising that Washington is pressuring Canada to make a decision on the F-35 while the CUSMA negotiations are still in play. And it’s precisely why Canada should not be rushed.

Has Canada long neglected defence? 100% true. But it just reached 2% of GDP, with more to come. Strong alliances have always been a key US advantage relative to the USSR and now China; Trump is squandering what has long been a major source of US power.
Under Secretary of War Elbridge Colby@USWPColby

A strong Canada that prioritizes hard power over rhetoric benefits us all. Unfortunately, Canada has failed to make credible progress on its defense commitments. DoW is pausing the Permanent Joint Board on Defense to reassess how this forum benefits shared North American defense. 1/3

My uncle, Lieut. Henry Perrin, died at 22 in the liberation of Holland on April 7, 1945. He is buried in the Canadian War Cemetery in Holten. The Dutch are the most remarkable of nationalities because they have never forgotten. There is an enduring bond between our two countries.

@dantappin @MarkJCarney @policy_mag Hi, Dan. In a democracy like Canada, you’re entitled to express whatever opinion you’d like. However, to avoid looking foolish it’s best to actually read the piece before you offer your critique.

The World's Dumbest Tariff Has Been Revealed “Trump’s 50% tariff and removal of an exemption for Canada drove producers there to send US-bound shipments to Europe instead. In just a few months, Aluminerie Alouette – North America's largest smelter – saw its European sales rise from 4% of production to 57%. Rio Tinto Plc largely stopped shipping Canadian aluminum to the US, and even Alcoa diverted around 100,000 metric tons to non-US destinations.” bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…

Excellent presentation today by @PierrePoilievre. No name-calling, meanness or shallow sloganeering. Instead, a positive, constructive vision of how Canada can be more sovereign and prosperous. You can disagree with specific proposals, but the speech was substantive and positive.

"...But the second thing that we can't get away from is that certainly for my lifetime, the single most important relationship that Canada is going to have, whether in diplomacy or insecurity or in trade, is with the United States." @PerrinBeatty @CdnChamberofCom

ICYMI: It’s good news that U.S. members of congress are speaking out against their country’s tariffs on Canada, but the trade relationship will get worse before getting better, says @PerrinBeatty. “We're going into the hashtag#CUSMA negotiations. We can expect an attempt to negotiate by intimidation,” Beatty, a former cabinet minister and former CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, told Means & Ways. “We also have a potential referendum coming up in Alberta, and we're already seeing signs of Trump administration interference in domestic Canadian affairs. We can expect that to step up as well. But if we look at it over a longer time span, I believe that Canada can come out of this stronger and more sovereign and more prosperous.” Read the full story here: meansandways.ca/news-articles/… #CanUs #cdntrade #cdnpoli #cdnecon #WhereBusinessMeetsPolitics
